Italian Days on Higher Education 2025

Once again in 2025, Uni-Italia is ready to launch a new edition of the Italian Days on Higher Education – also known as IDOHE – a series of events dedicated to promoting the Italian higher education system worldwide.

Organised in collaboration with the Italian diplomatic and consular network, the IDOHE provide universities and academies from Italy with the chance to connect directly with international students, showcase their academic offerings, and build lasting relationships in some of the most dynamic and promising contexts for internationalisation.

In the second half of 2025, the calendar focuses on five key countries across Africa and Asia. In some cases, multiple cities are involved, and institutions will be free to choose whether to join the full tour or participate in selected locations. This flexibility allows each institution to tailor its experience based on strategic interests and resources.

A valuable opportunity for global engagement

The IDOHE are not just fairs – they’re meaningful opportunities for dialogue, visibility, and exchange. Participating means engaging directly with thousands of students, but also with local schools, universities, and institutional actors. It’s a concrete way to let Italian knowledge and culture travel the world, reaching new generations and forging long-term academic ties.

Uni-Italia at NAFSA 2025: in San Diego to Promote the Internationalization of the Italian Higher Education System

Uni-Italia will once again take part in NAFSA 2025, the world’s largest international education event focused on networking and global cooperation, taking place in San Diego, California, USA, from May 27 to May 30, 2025.

Italy’s participation will be coordinated through the "Study in Italy" National Pavilion (booth #703), which will host 32 Italian institutions committed to promoting academic excellence and international partnerships.

Among these, the collaboration between Uni-Italia and INDIRE – Erasmus+ National Agency, launched in 2024, continues with the shared goal of enhancing the global visibility of the AFAM sector (Higher Education in the Arts, Music, and Dance).

Thanks to this initiative, nine Italian music conservatories and academies will be present in the Pavilion, ready to engage with international stakeholders interested in artistic education:

Marco Calvi and Chiara Gilardoni will represent Uni-Italia at the fair, supporting institutional networking and international engagement.

Foreign institutions interested in connecting with participating Italian universities and AFAM institutions are invited to contact us at academic.cooperation@uni-italia.it.

We look forward to welcoming you in San Diego to share ideas, foster new collaborations, and strengthen global academic ties.

Training Days for Uni-Italia Centers Worldwide – February 17-19, 2025

The annual meeting with the representatives of Uni-Italia Centers in China, India, Indonesia, Vietnam, Iran, and Morocco was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI).

During the three-day event, discussions focused on enhancing the promotion of studying in Italy and strengthening networking initiatives in each country, with particular attention to improving support for international students. This effort aligns with the recent inclusion of the Ministry of Education and Merit (MIM) as one of Uni-Italia’s founding members.

Best practices were shared, and country-specific challenges were addressed with the aim of reinforcing brand identity and optimizing editorial strategies.

On February 18, the heads of Uni-Italia Centers worldwide also engaged in discussions with 80 delegates and internationalization experts representing universities and AFAM institutes within the Uni-Italia Scientific Council. Together, they analyzed internationalization strategies implemented across different countries.

EU LIAISON OFFICE

Uni-Italia has established a Liaison Office in Brussels with the European Union Institutions, aiming to provide up-to-date information on European policies and to identify financial resources for the Italian education, research, and innovation sectors from EU programs.

It actively participates in the work of informal and formal networks at the European level, such as Giuri, IGLO, and ACA, promoting the exchange of information and collaboration between various academic, professional higher education, research, and innovation entities. It also offers European policymakers technical contributions and policy guidance (i.e., position papers) on the most relevant topics of the European political agenda.

Additionally, it supports delegations from Italian academic institutions during their visits by facilitating meetings and exchanges with European institutions and other stakeholders. This helps to foster a deeper understanding and, when necessary, provides methodological support for the organizational implementation of the same educational institutions. It may also organize training courses on specific topics of interest or deeper insights into relevant subjects.

MARCO POLO - TURANDOT GOVERNMENT PROGRAMS

The Conference on the Marco Polo and Turandot Government Programs, established respectively in 2006 and 2009, is organized annually by Uni-Italia and is aimed at Universities, AFAM institutions, and language training organizations interested in the Projects.

Thanks to the Marco Polo and Turandot Programs, Chinese students with no knowledge of the Italian language can obtain a study visa, provided they are pre-enrolled in an Italian University or AFAM Institution Degree Program and must attend, before enrollment, a compulsory 10 or 11-month Italian language course in Italy.
The Marco Polo and Turandot Programs are unique in the landscape of relations between China and other countries. It is estimated that since 2008, around 35,000 Chinese students have enrolled in an Italian HEI solely thanks to the opportunity provided by these channels.
The Conference therefore aims to analyze the two Programs from various perspectives, in order to examine their critical aspects and identify possible solutions to improve their functioning. Moreover, it collects contributions from stakeholders, in a moment of discussion in the presence of officials from the relevant ministries (the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the Ministry of University and Research).
These summary documents, collected over the years, not only provide the most recent general data but also seek to summarize the discussions among the various actors of the two Programs on unresolved issues, as well as present information useful to all those institutions that have recently joined or intend to do so in the near future.
The findings of the conferences, emerged from the debates, are then periodically reported to the institutional references, in anticipation of the publication of the relevant Marco Polo and Turandot provisions.

INVEST YOUR TALENT IN ITALY

The "Invest Your Talent In Italy" program by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Ministry of University and Research in collaboration with ICE Agency and Uni-Italy aims to promote the internationalization of the Italian academic system as a center of excellence, offering foreign students opportunities for high-quality educational paths.

The program provides the opportunity to develop academic, technical, and professional skills through a series of Master's degrees and Master's programs in the areas of Engineering-High Technologies, Architecture-Design, Economics-Management, and through the activation of training internships at Italian companies.

The best Italian universities participating in the program offer courses entirely in English to increase job prospects in a competitive landscape. The program offers the opportunity for interested universities to host foreign talents from target markets, specialized in their operational sectors.

Through the Invest your Talent in Italy model, international students (from one of the 18 countries of strategic importance for Italy (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Brazil, Colombia, Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, India, Indonesia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Mexico, Republic of Korea, People's Republic of China, Turkey, Tunisia, and Vietnam) have the opportunity to undergo classroom training at one of the participating Italian universities and to carry out an internship (approximately lasting 3 months and unpaid) at an Italian company.

In this way, the program promotes the internationalization of the Italian academic system as a center of excellence, stimulating synergies between universities and businesses.

The main requirements that universities must have if interested in participating are:

In Memory of Giulia Cecchettin

Born and raised in Vigonovo, in the province of Venice, Giulia Cecchettin was attending the Biomedical Engineering course at the University of Padua. On the evening of November 11, 2023, Giulia was murdered by her ex-boyfriend. She was supposed to graduate on November 16.
Giulia's death has sparked a wave of deep emotion across Italy, catalyzing the country's outrage at the intolerable tragedy of femicides and triggering a broad collective reflection on the issue of gender-based violence. Her figure has spontaneously become the symbol of the Day against Violence against Women, celebrated with numerous initiatives and events throughout Italy on November 25, 2023, just a few days after her brutal murder.
Following the tragic events in Vigonovo, the Vice Premier and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Antonio Tajani, expressed the intention to dedicate a series of government scholarships to the memory of the young woman, intended for young international students "who come to study in Italy and dream what Giulia dreamed".
It was therefore decided to dedicate the "Invest Your Talent in Italy" program to the memory of Giulia Cecchettin.
To ensure that this gesture is not merely symbolic, starting from the academic year 2023-2024, the inclusion in the academic path of IYT scholarship holders of a seminar or training module dedicated to promoting gender equality and combating violence against women is planned.

International Higher Education Agencies Summit

The G7+ International Higher Education Agencies Summit is a traditional closed-door meeting organized on a rotating basis by the internationalization agency of the country holding the G7 presidency. The Summit, which brings together G7 international agencies along with representatives from other countries, aims to address issues related to the new challenges facing Higher Education.

Uni-Italia has organized and chaired two editions of the Summit, in 2017 and 2024.

The first edition, held in Turin, welcomed delegates from 10 international agencies and focused on the main theme: “The New Challenges: Knowledge Spreading vs New Fears.” Another significant topic discussed was the internationalization of research, featuring the presentation of the report “Globalizing University Research” by the AIFS Foundation (USA). The day concluded with the unanimous approval of “The Turin 2017 Declaration: Common Statement of Agencies Supporting Mobility in Higher Education.

The second edition, held in Milan, saw a significant increase in interest, with representatives from 15 international agencies in attendance. In the context of economic and social recovery and in response to emerging global challenges, the topics addressed during the Summit – ranging from mobility to talent retention and the integration prospects for international students – sparked keen interest among participants. The “Milan Declaration - Common Statement of Agencies Supporting the Internationalisation of Higher Education” is the result of a collaborative effort and has been warmly received, with 17 agencies signing it to date, including two that were unable to attend the event in person.

Both Declarations are included in their respective proceedings.
